John is a lifelong learner, loves to travel, and is a loving partner, friend, and husband to Mairi, who he’s been with for more than 26 years. John is also a father to four sons, two stepsons, and a daughter. He is the firstborn son of Dutch immigrants who came to the US at the end of World War II.
John has worked in the aviation technology sector as a systems engineer for over 40 years. He continues to engage in that industry as a part-time consultant. He currently lives in Belding, Michigan, during the winter months, and he spends his summers with Mairi at their cabin in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Since retirement, John has been pouring his energy into men’s community work, both as a member of the Path to Spirit-Warrior’s Elders Council and as a new MenLiving facilitator. He is also active in local environmental issues and causes. John serves alongside Mairi as a firekeeper for her women’s purification and healing circles.
