Cathy and Todd discuss romance and why we easily mistake superficial gestures for genuine connection. Drawing from examples in TV and movies, they focus on the difference between societal ideals of romance and the authentic experiences that truly make people feel seen and valued. They also discuss why we hesitate to be romantic, touching on factors such as our personal history and discomfort with vulnerability. They stress that one of the vital components is being authentic, so we don’t have to change who we are to become more romantic.
