MenWalking’s current events take place monthly throughout Chicagoland. Interested in starting a MenWalking group near you? Reach out to todd@menliving.org.
Why We Walk
The physical health consequences of poor or insufficient connection among men include a 29% increased risk of heart disease, a 32% increased risk of stroke, and a 50% increased risk of developing dementia for older adults. Additionally, lacking social connection increases risk of premature death by more than 60%. (U.S. Surgeon General Advisory.)
1 in 5 men said they had gotten emotional support from a friend in the past week, compared with 4 in 10 women. (Survey Center on American Life.)
So we’re taking one small step for men to connect with other men.
What do we do?
Walk and talk for one hour, once per month, with men who are 18+. Leave earbuds at home to be present with other men. If you want to grab coffee or lunch after, feel free!
