Hey folks,

Welcome to Mental Health Awareness Month!

This week, I wanted to share an essential element of nurturing your mental well-being.

Enjoy!

consistent self-care routines

carving out time for activities that replenish you helps build a foundation of resilience.

from my experience as a therapist and coach, even small, daily rituals—like a quick breathing exercise, a brief walk around the block, or setting aside five minutes for mindful reflection—can shift your mood and energy in profound ways.

i say this a lot, “it’s better to brush your teeth one minute a day than it is for four hours once a month.”

in other words, lower the bar.

consistency, even in micro-doses, signals to your nervous system that you deserve care and restoration – and this message is way more important than achieving any specific goal or outcome.

practice suggestions:

choose one micro-ritual to weave into your day for the next week.

for example:
·       upon waking, spend five mindful breaths noticing the rise and fall of your chest
·       before lunch, stand up and stretch for one full minute, noticing which parts of your body feel tight
·       each evening, sit quietly with a cup of tea for three minutes—no phone, no screens—just savoring the moment

set a gentle reminder or pair your ritual with an existing habit (like brushing your teeth) or relationship (do it with someone).

at the end of each day, jot down one word that describes how the practice felt.

closing thoughts

consistent self-care isn’t about adding more to your plate—it’s about creating tiny moments of nourishment that compound over time.

these simple rituals can strengthen your resilience and bring more calm into daily life.

here’s another thing i say a lot, “don’t believe me, trust your experience.”

next week, we’ll explore the power of meaningful connections.

until then, be kind to yourself, and remember: small steps can lead to big shifts.

with a little blast of goodness,

donald

excellent framing for how to do this. lowering the bar with micro-rituals relieves a lot of unnecessary pressure and ensuing emotional discomfort. . regulating my nervous system has been of vital importance to me over the past few months. i’ve experienced considerable gains in this direction with a month of very simple, daily, 5-10 minute breathing exercises.
    thanks for the reminder
