A Night with Matthew Sloane – Hosted by Men Living (open to all)

April 17 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm CDT

Free
MenLiving is hosting a live conversation with Matthew Sloane, artist and author of Hiding Inside a Man: Finding Strength in Self-Compassion.

A Night with Matthew Sloane – discussing his book, Hiding Inside a Man:

This book is a uniquely illustrated graphic novel featuring Matthew’s journey from confusion about how to be a man in today’s world to finding self-compassion and possibility (see details at the bottom to get the book).

In our time together:

  • We’ll read a bit of the book and share some of the incredible artwork.
  • We’ll find out more about Matthew as a human being.
  • Attendees will receive details on how to purchase the book at a discount, with 50% of the profits supporting MenLiving’s current fundraising efforts.
  • Attendees will have a chance to ask Matthew questions about himself and/or his book.

This book is truly one of a kind and offers positive modeling for how we, as men, might endeavor to speak to ourselves—with deeper self-compassion in the face of limiting cultural expectations.

This event is open to all

Here’s what some of the elders in our community at large have said about Matthew’s book, Hiding Inside a Man:

“I highly recommend this book to every man who has ever been in a men’s group or thought he might benefit, for every woman who has hungered for a man to be this vulnerable and honest, and for everyone who longs to see a world where men are fully healed, caring, compassionate, and alive.” — Jed Diamond, PhD, LCSW, Founder/VHS (Visionary, Healer, Scholar in residence) MenAlive.com and the MoonshotForMankind.org., author of 12 Rules for Good Men

“Matthew’s story, though unique, reflects a common struggle many boys experience in feeling unwelcome in the world of men. It’s both inspiring and encouraging. I highly recommend this book for boys and men.” — Daniel Ellenberg, PhD / past President of the Society for the Psychological Study of Men & Masculinities (American Psychological Association), founder of the Men & Boys Compassion Coalition

“Matthew’s deeply personal book with his words, his drawings, his inner journey, also seems universal. We elders may recognize this journey as we have been there. Young men may track this path, discover their own trajectory and take heart. With this gift of guidance they may just find the soul poetry of worthy masculinity.” — Bill Kauth / co-founder of the New Warrior Training Adventure of The Mankind Project and author of ‘A Circle of Men’ and ‘We Need Each Other: Building Gift Community’
